Redi

At the forest school, Redi’s group is often seen busy with their own activities. Each individual has their own exploration area, and interactions among them are minimal. Redi, spends more time in the tree canopy than on the forest floor. During his exploration, he searches for food like young leaves and fruits available in the forest.

Redi rarely interacts with observers. He tends to keep his distance and avoids direct contact with humans, displaying behavior that aligns with release criteria. The group’s daily activities run from morning to late afternoon, and as the day winds down, they usually gather near the front of the forest school, each settling into their favorite tree.

Although the atmosphere appears calm, Redi’s dominance sometimes creates tension with other group members. One afternoon, Redi disturbed Artemis, who was relaxing on a tree branch. The interaction began with mutual pulling but escalated into a chase by Redi. In her attempt to escape, Artemis chose a fragile branch and fell to the forest floor.

Fortunately, Artemis was not injured. After the incident, Redi simply watched her from the tree above before slowly moving away, showing no signs of remorse.

When evening feeding time arrives, each group member prefers to eat in separate areas. Redi usually retreats deeper into the forest to enjoy his meal in peace while swinging on the branches. During meals, he focuses solely on his food and shows no interest in interacting with other orangutans, including Artemis.

However, things change when they are in the cage. When Redi finishes his food, he often approaches Artemis to take her food, as if dissatisfied with his meal. This behavior highlights Redi’s competitive side, contrasting with his tendency to maintain distance while at the forest school.
