MAMAT
At the end of March in Sintang, West Kalimantan, the dry season began. The air feels drier, although light rain still occasionally falls, as if just passing through. During the day, the heat can be quite intense, making the atmosphere feel even more desolate—including for Mamat.
In these weather conditions, Mamat tends to be less active. He prefers to stay in his resting area, enjoying the calm of the day in a simple way. His movements are minimal, as if he understands that this is the time to rest and conserve energy. Even so, his overall health remains good. The SOC’s Medical Team continues to monitor him closely and ensure that his condition stays stable, with nothing to be concerned about.
When it comes to feeding, Mamat still shows strong enthusiasm. His eating pattern remains normal—he finishes everything given to him without leaving any leftovers. His appetite is not affected by the heat; in fact, it is one of the clear signs that he is in good condition. During the day, he is also regularly given tofu water, especially when temperatures are high. This fluid intake is important, and Mamat appears to enjoy every sip, as if he understands that his body needs it.
His interaction with Beno, who is in the neighboring cage, is also going well. The dynamic between them is calm and peaceful. Beno, who is more passive, tends to avoid Mamat when he tries to approach, preventing any conflict. Their relationship feels easygoing, with each maintaining their own space and character.
However, as feeding time approaches, a different side of Mamat becomes apparent. He becomes more lively, energetic, and responsive. Whenever an animal keeper passes near his enclosure, Mamat almost always moves closer, as if he doesn’t want to miss a single moment. There is a distinct sense of anticipation that makes him very expressive.
Mamat is also known to enjoy observing the animal keepers who clean his enclosure every morning. Since his enclosure is elevated and the cleaning area is below, he is often seen peeking down from above. His behavior reflects a strong sense of curiosity—closely watching the activity below. Sometimes he remains still, other times making small movements, as if observing the world around him from his own perspective.
Mamat’s daily life may seem simple, but it follows a steady rhythm—resting during the heat, becoming active at feeding times, and staying connected to his surroundings in his own way. Hopefully, Mamat will continue to stay healthy and stable, and be able to carry on his days in comfort and calm.
