MAMAT

A few days ago, rain began falling in the morning. It wasn’t a heavy downpour that caused much noise, just a soft drizzle falling gently, wetting the roof of each cage one by one. Mamat sat calmly in the corner of his cage, waiting for his breakfast as usual.

Every morning, Mamat is the most alert “gatekeeper.” As soon as he hears the footsteps of a keeper or the sound of a cart being pushed, his eyes light up, and his ears perk. Sometimes he stands up and glances around, his expression as if to say, “Come on, hurry up! My stomach’s empty!”

His breakfast usually includes his favorite fruits and vegetables—bananas, pineapples, sweet potatoes, and mustard greens. But when it comes to eat, Mamat isn’t picky. Whatever is given, he devours enthusiastically. No fuss, just as long as he’s full.

He spends his days in the cage with Beno—his neighbor and quiet companion. Even though they sit in separate cage, Mamat and Beno seem close. There’s never any drama between them—just the occasional glance if they hear a strange sound or see a leaf flutter by.

Since Mungky was relocated to East Kalimantan, the atmosphere around the cages has become much calmer. Mamat and Mungky used to have occasional conflicts. Now, with just him and Beno, life feels more peaceful. Maybe Mamat is starting to enjoy that quietness, too.

Over the past few months, animal keepers have reported that Mamat’s condition has been quite stable. He’s healthy, active, and responsive. The ever-changing weather in Sintang—sometimes hot, sometimes rainy—doesn’t seem to have much impact on his health.

Moving forward, we hope Mamat remains stable, healthy, and increasingly active. With a consistent diet, regular monitoring by the animal keepers, and a clean, safe environment, Mamat can continue living his days comfortably—even while still in the cage.

We hope Sintang’s unpredictable weather won’t affect his health, and that his daily interactions with the keepers, along with the peaceful surroundings, help Mamat feel calm, secure, and… remain the same laid-back yet lovable Mamat we all know.
