MAMAT

In this enrichment session, an interesting story emerged from Mungky’s antics. The enrichment provided was a coconut. As usual, Mamat took his time to finish his coconut, calmly and diligently enjoying each bite. Meanwhile, next to him, Mungky quickly finished his own coconut.

After finishing his coconut, Mungky couldn’t resist to not disturbing Mamat, who was still busy enjoying his coconut. Known as a curious and somewhat mischievous orangutan, Mungky tried to provoke Mamat. He started by spraying water from his drinking spout towards Mamat. He tried several times, but Mamat remained calm and ignored Mungky’s disturbances, as if he was completely absorbed in the enjoyment of his coconut.

Seeing that his efforts were failing, Mungky didn’t give up. He tried another approach by reaching his hand through the gaps in the cage, attempting to touch Mamat. However, once again, Mamat remained unfazed and focused on his coconut. Finally, out of ideas and unsuccessful in getting a reaction from Mamat, Mungky gave up and became quiet.

After finishing his coconut, Mamat calmly moved to his shelter to rest, maintaining his characteristic tranquility, while Mungky could only watch from a distance, realizing that his attempt to bother Mamat this time was unsuccessful.

When the afternoon feeding time arrived, Mamat had a unique way of letting the animal keepers know that the time was near. With his distinctive vocalizations that were well-known to the staff, Mamat made sure everyone knew that he was waiting for the food. When the food was finally given, Mamat wasted no time. He went straight to the door of his cage and took the food offered to him.

What happened next was truly amusing. Instead of eating at his usual spot, Mamat suddenly rolled backward quickly, as if wanting to move to a safer place to enjoy his meal. With great enthusiasm, Mamat began eating the fruits and vegetables given to him, including eggplant, cucumber, cabbage, and other vegetables.

This time, Mamat seemed more energetic than usual. While he typically eats while lying down calmly, this time he moved around more often. Mamat ate his food slowly but kept moving, making this afternoon’s feeding session more dynamic and full of activity compared to his more relaxed habits.
