Banir

Since January, Manfred has been designated as one of the orangutan individuals involved in a research project conducted by a female student from Tanjungpura University, Pontianak. As part of this activity, temporary adjustments were made to the orangutan grouping. Under this re-grouping scheme, Banir is now housed in the same enclosure as Redi, Seko, Otan, and Julia.

To date, Banir has demonstrated a good ability to adapt to these changes. She remains in stable physical condition and exhibits consistent behavior, with no indications of stress observed in her daily activities or social interactions within the group. Her calm and adaptive responses reflect a strong capacity to adjust to the dynamics of her new environment.

During forest school sessions, Banir is known as a relatively independent individual. She often chooses to explore the learning area on her own and does not always follow the movements of other orangutans in the group. This behavioral pattern reflects a good level of confidence and exploratory ability, without disrupting overall group dynamics.

Clear individual differences become apparent during observations prior to rest periods. Unlike Otan and Julia, who tend to rest on the forest floor, Banir consistently chooses tall Keladan trees as her night time resting sites during forest school activities. She often selects her resting location early, typically on large, sturdy branches at a safe height.

Although Banir has not yet been observed building a nest, her ability to select appropriate resting sites indicates well-developed arboreal instincts. This behavior represents a positive indicator in her ongoing rehabilitation process and reflects her growing ability to recognize and respond to her natural environmental needs as an orangutan.
