The dry season has arrived in Sintang. The intense heat has made the socialization cage noticeably warmer, but it has not slowed Redi and Banir down. They continue to spend much of their time playing together on the hammock, climbing, and swinging from one side of the enclosure to the other. Swinging remains one of Redi’s favorite activities, and he takes every opportunity to stay active while strengthening his natural locomotor skills.

The hotter weather has also influenced Redi’s daily routine. He has been drinking more frequently than usual and is often seen wetting his body to help regulate his body temperature. This is a natural behavioral response commonly observed in orangutans during periods of high environmental temperatures.

At feeding time, Redi and Banir have an interesting routine. Although they eat in the same cage, each prefers to settle in a different corner. Redi calmly finishes his meal in his favorite spot, while Banir enjoys her food from another corner of the enclosure.

One moment never fails to amuse the keepers. As soon as Redi finishes his meal, he walks over to Banir, who is usually still eating. The moment Banir notices Redi approaching, she quickly stuffs as much food as possible into her mouth, causing her cheeks to bulge with food. It almost seems as though Banir is determined not to let Redi have a chance to sample her meal, while Redi simply stands nearby watching her.

Redi also has a distinctive behavior that makes him easy to recognize. Whenever a keeper calls his name, he often responds by vocalizing, almost as if he is answering the call. This simple interaction has become one of Redi’s unique characteristics and reflects his responsiveness to the people who care for him during his rehabilitation.

Despite the hot weather, Redi continues to show a healthy appetite and remains active throughout the day alongside Banir. His daily activities—playing, swinging, drinking more frequently, wetting his body to stay cool, eating alongside Banir, and responding to the keepers’ calls—reflect his positive behavioral development as he progresses through the rehabilitation process.
