Redi
During a feeding session, the monitoring team recorded an interesting moment from an orangutan named Redi, who is currently 4 years old. At that time, the food provided was cabbage cut into fairly large pieces. Since the pieces were too big to fit through the cage bars, some were placed on top of the cage while others were positioned along the edges to make them easier to reach.
Unlike other individuals who immediately grabbed the cabbage pieces closest to them, Redi displayed a remarkably calm and thoughtful strategy. He patiently began peeling off the layers of cabbage from the top of the cage, pulling the small pieces one by one through the bars until he successfully brought them inside. After gathering his portion, Redi carried his food to a comfortable corner of the cage, where he quietly enjoyed his meal.
This behavior demonstrates Redi’s strong problem-solving ability and adaptability. Through his own method, he managed to obtain more food without engaging in direct competition with others. Redi’s way of handling this simple situation serves as a positive indication of his intelligence and efficient feeding strategy — valuable traits that will help him face challenges in his natural habitat in the future.
