MAMAT

After Mungky was moved to the isolation cage at the Jerora Forest School, only Mamat and Beno remain at the Sintang Quarantine Center. Mamat now occupies the cage previously used by Mungky.

This move was intended to allow Mamat to enjoy additional facilities, such as a hammock, which wasn’t available in his old cage. However, instead of resting in the hammock, Mamat prefers to use the shelter as his resting spot. Whether in the morning, afternoon, or evening, he is always seen resting in the shelter. This habit might be due to his previous environment, where the shelter was the only resting option available. As a result, he seems more comfortable sticking to what he’s used to, even though he now has an extra option for relaxation.

Despite being in a new cage, Mamat appears just as comfortable as he was before. With Mungky—who used to frequently disturb him—no longer around, his space feels much calmer. Although Beno is still at the quarantine center, they are housed separately, so interactions between the two are minimal.

From time to time, Mamat can be seen standing upright, facing Beno’s cage, especially when Beno is relaxing. But since Beno doesn’t respond, Mamat eventually returns to his original position and continues his activities. Occasionally, the sound of firecrackers at night startles Mamat, causing him to wake up and let out his distinctive vocalization to show his discomfort. However, he always manages to calm down and go back to sleep. These incidents are rare, but due to the quarantine center’s proximity to residential areas, the occasional firecracker can disturb his night time peace.

Mamat’s interaction with the animal keepers remains the same as before. He always wakes up when a keeper approaches and makes his distinctive alarm sound, as if to signal that mealtime is near. When eating, Mamat shows a high appetite, especially for vegetables. He quickly climbs to the top of the cage to grab the vegetables placed there. After he is satisfied eating the vegetables, he then goes down to enjoy the fruits that are usually placed at the bottom of the cage. This feeding routine encourages Mamat to be more active in obtaining his food.
