MAMAT

The morning routine in the cage begins with Mamat’s usual habits. This time, he woke up in his shelter, not on the upper floor where he usually rests. As soon as the animal keeper arrived with his breakfast, Mamat approached in a prone position, waiting patiently to have his fruit served. After finishing his meal, Mamat chose to observe the animal keeper cleaning the cage, as if enjoying the peaceful moment before engaging in other activities. However, once the floor of the enclosure was cleaned, Mamat was no longer nearby. He returned to his shelter, opting to rest without any further activities.

Mamat has a unique way of interacting with Mungky, especially during mealtime. Mungky, who enjoys spraying water from his mouth at the animal keeper, sometimes directs the spray toward Mamat when the animal keeper is feeding him. As a result, Mamat often gets sprayed with water.

Mamat’s reaction to the water spray can vary. Sometimes, he gets angry and approaches Mungky, as if giving a warning or showing his displeasure. Other times, Mamat prefers to back off and retreat to the back of his enclosure to avoid the disturbance. This shows that although Mamat doesn’t like being interrupted while eating, he has two ways of dealing with the disruption—by confronting it or by avoiding it, depending on the situation.

Mamat and Mungky’s relationship are often tense. According to the animal keeper’s observations, the two are always involved in conflicts every week. This usually happens when Mungky bothers Mamat during meals. When the animal keeper throws vegetables onto the roof of the enclosure, Mamat climbs up to retrieve them. However, Mungky often approaches as if challenging him to a fight. It’s not uncommon for them to engage in a brief dominance struggle, facing off in a light scuffle. Mamat usually backs down, choosing to move away and focus on his meal, while Mungky continues trying to draw Mamat’s attention.

However, there’s a special moment that gets Mamat more excited—Christmas treats. When the animal keeper arrives with frozen fruit satay, Mamat eagerly waits in front of his cage. As soon as the treat is given, he immediately devours it with great enthusiasm. Unlike usual, Mamat took his Christmas treat to the upper floor of the cage, his favorite spot to relax. He lays down with his head facing the ventilation, enjoying the treat while taking in the view from the open ventilation.

When additional fruit satay was provided, Mamat repeated the same routine, showing how much he enjoyed this special moment. His excitement when receiving the treat revealed Mamat’s calm yet responsive nature to new and interesting things. Even in such a relaxed moment, he still showed his energetic personality.
