SINTA AND SABINE

A bright morning at the forest school found Sinta and her child, Sabine, already waiting at the feeding platform. Sabine sat perched on Sinta’s shoulders, her bright eyes scanning her surroundings with curiosity. When the animal keeper arrived with breakfast, Sinta approached confidently. Unlike some orangutans who might shy away from humans, Sinta showed ease in their presence.

Fresh vegetables were on the menu for breakfast. Sinta quickly began eating her portion but didn’t forget to share with Sabine. From her mother’s shoulder, Sabine eagerly grabbed pieces of food offered to her, and the two enjoyed their meal together. After finishing, they didn’t immediately retreat to the canopy but lingered around the feeding platform instead.

Sinta settled on the forest floor, chewing on tender young leaves she found nearby, occasionally handing a piece to Sabine. As her curiosity grew, Sabine ventured off Sinta’s shoulders a few times to explore the lower branches. Yet, her tiny steps always stayed within the protective reach of her mother.

Sinta remained mostly stationary, sitting calmly while keeping a watchful eye on Sabine. With quiet attentiveness, she observed her child playing and climbing small branches. Although Sabine displayed increasing independence, Sinta ensured her safety with an unwavering gaze.

As midday approached, Sinta began climbing into the trees with Sabine following closely. Up in the canopy, Sinta searched for forest fruits—one of their favorite foods. Sabine, growing bolder, no longer waited for her mother to gather food. Instead, she deftly picked fruits herself, demonstrating her growing skills.

High among the treetops, the bond between mother and child became even more evident. Sinta rested in the mid-canopy while Sabine frequently ventured to the upper branches. Though they shared the same tree, Sabine’s explorations reflected her newfound freedom. Sinta gave her child the space to explore while maintaining a watchful eye from a safe distance.

This story beautifully captures the harmonious dynamic between Sinta and Sabine, with Sinta as a caring and attentive mother and Sabine blossoming into a more independent individual.
