BONDAN

Bondan and Joss, two loyal companions currently in the isolation cage, are patiently waiting for their release schedule. Bondan remains in good health, with an excellent appetite. These two orangutans have distinct personalities, creating a unique dynamic that is fascinating to observe.

When observers or animal keepers approach their cage, Joss often displays her mischievous nature. She frequently tries to spit at them, as if making them the target of her antics. In contrast, Bondan is more composed. She usually sits quietly in the cage, observing Joss’s lively behavior.

The atmosphere changes when it’s feeding time. Bondan becomes very enthusiastic, even nudging Joss aside to get her food first. Meanwhile, Joss remains calm, patiently waiting until her meal is handed to her.

One of Bondan’s unique habits is how she enjoys her food in the isolation cage. After receiving her meal, Bondan immediately moves away from Joss and heads to a hammock made from a large plastic barrel. Instead of entering through the front opening, Bondan always chooses to circle around and enter through the back. This habit is likely her strategy to maintain a safe distance from Joss, who often tries to snatch her food.

However, when Joss finishes her meal first, she typically chases Bondan to take what’s left of hers. If Joss succeeds in taking Bondan’s food, she will claim the hammock, while Bondan returns to the cage floor to finish her meal. Despite this, by evening, the two are often seen getting along. They share the same hammock to rest for the night.

Joss, known to be quite timid during forest school sessions, tends to seek comfort by staying close to other orangutans, including Bondan. Their relationship reflects a unique balance of petty rivalry and friendship, demonstrating the typical social dynamics of orangutans in confined spaces.
